As September usually follows August, and August has somehow already managed to sneak it's way into summer, I suppose it's about time for another ArtPrize 2012 update!
ArtPrize is a unique and ever exciting opportunity for the Grand Rapids community and each year brings new ideas, challenges, and perspectives. It is a great way for the community to spend time looking at different types of art and to get to know some of the local areas of Grand Rapids. Whether participating as a viewer, a venue host, or an artist, ArtPrize has a way of bringing large amounts of people together. This year ArtPrize 2012 runs from September 19 to October 7, 2012.
As an ArtPrize Artist this year, I am realizing more and more with each new ArtPrize update email that September will be here before I know it! The piece is still in progress, and I continually ask myself why I did not choose a simple paintbrush and paint for my medium :). I am using cut and torn paper images from various pamphlets from Cambodian organizations, currently scattered about my bedroom floor waiting to be sorted, trimmed, and glued into the perfect place.
My piece will be a part of the "Art to Change the World" exhibit at Fountain Street Church. The exhibit will honor the role art plays as a change agent for social and economic justice and its ability to communicate basic human rights issues and to envision a more perfect world.
The Opening Artist Reception will be held in the evening on Wednesday, September 19. More information and details about parking to follow! It looks to be an exciting exhibit with lots of very talented artists!
